Kicking off our 2014 Summer Art Season in Bridgehampton with Zenscapes

Elisa Contemporary Art presents Zenscapes at The Design Studio in Bridgehampton, NY.  The exhibit will run through July 7, 2014.   This will be the first of three art exhibits and series of special events taking place this summer in Bridgehampton at The Design Studio.

Zenscapes is a meditative journey into the abstracted landscapes of artists from the East and West Coasts.  Our three artists reimagine landscapes, seascapes and our surroundings.  The viewer is guided into unknown, new places and worlds.   

The exhibit features the work of New York and Easthampton artist, Michele D'Ermo, Los Angeles Flow painter, Kimber Berry and San Jose Paper Constructionist, Michael Buscemi.

New York and East Hampton artist Michele D’Ermo melds together the land, water and

skies in an abstracted way through rich colors and ambiant light.  According to Michele, “Art and nature are so close together it is impossible to say what comes first. Nature allows me to rely on impulse – it is my teacher, but I allow for the mystery of art to unfold…To keep my work spontaneous and inventive, I try to draw upon what lies beneath normal cognition in an uninhibited way. Intuition draws from subliminal knowledge and allows the unfiltered, unfamiliar and unknown to enter my work.”

Art from the Left Coast opens at Elisa Contemporary Art today!

Elisa Contemporary Art presents Art from the Left Coast.  The exhibit opens November 29, 2013.  It will run through January 26, 2014.    

As the winter approaches, we venture to California and the Pacific Islands to see refuge and a reprieve.  Featured artists include:

Art from the Left Coast highlights include:

A Small Miracle of Circumstance by Kimber Berry, a recent painting from latest series, Plastic Gardens. 

In this series, Kimber addresses the ongoing diminishing natural environments.  According to Kimber, "Amongst hundreds of thousands of miles of concrete and steel we feel a distance from nature and are compelled to create green spaces, oasis, parks and gardens of cut grass, pruned trees and waterfalls constructed of painted  concrete rocks encircled by highly designed flower beds, essentially nature on our terms.   I've constructed this series of paintings inspired by these plastic gardens."

Michael Buscemi's Klari 2 has found a home!

We're thrilled that California artist, Michael Buscemi's rag paper collage, Klari 2, has found a new home in Manhattan through Interior Designer, Maria Aiello!  She spotted the artwork as she was at the 1stdibs space at the New York Design Center, 200 Lexington Avenue.

According to Michael, Klari 2 had "started to form in my studio before my trip to Tbilisi, Georgia. I left the painting behind and embarked on a journey with the excitement and wonder for things to come. While in Tbilisi, I was impacted by the mystic Caucasus Mountains and the undulating black sea; but most importantly, I was moved by the wild whispers of the winds in Tbilisi. When I came back to California, I felt like it was all a dream. I got back into my studio and processed all I have dreamed" 

Elisa Contemporary Art has been representing Michael Buscemi since 2012.  Here's a little about the artist:
 

Micheal Buscemi was born in upstate New York. As a young child, Michael traveled all around the country with his family. In 1986 they made their home in San Francisco bay area.

According to California artist, Michael Buscemi, " In a quest to get back to simplicity, I found myself exploring cut paper, and mixed- media collages. This process allowed me to build constructs and change composition with a rapid immediacy. These sculptural elements allow me to work in unison layer after layer; creating shadow, contrast, depth and movement. I love to work with sense of spontaneity; however I am also engaged in the highly repetitive meticulous process.  I am inspired by the rhythm and forms that emerge from the shadow. I see this as the ever-changing evolution process."

Michael began his white-on-white paper collage series in 2012.  His work has become part of collections throughout California, New York and Europe.

Last Days to see Reflection & Vision, the Black & White curated exhibit by Elisa Contemporary Art at 1stdibs at New York Design Center.

Elisa Contemporary Art has curated Reflection and Vision – works of Black & White at 1stdibs at NYDC.   

Our latest exhibit explores three contemporary artists:  One is working in all black, the other in all white.  Our third artist, who is color blind, works in black & white.

To color theorists, black is the absence of all color.  When there is no light, there is no color and therefore all is black.  

 However, according to New York artist, James Austin Murray who creates lush, textured all-black oil paintings:

"The focus in my paintings is all light. They have a reflective nature that interacts with the light around them. This makes the work subtly interactive with their environments. Black absorbs the full spectrum of light and what we have left is pure reflections of color….I'm compelled to make these paintings by my interest in light and movement, in the paint itself, and the color and character of reflective light….At times I work off-square. I let the shapes influence the paint and give it both a parameter to play with and work within."

At the other spectrum, white is the blending of all colors.  California Artist, Michael Buscemi began his series of pure white paper collages in 2012.  Buscemi wanted to eliminate all existing media and be left only with light, shape and shadow.  He takes extra thick rag paper and with swift and fluid cuts, creates thousands of small, shaped pieces.  These severed paper pieces are then built up and layered, allowing the shadows and shapes to organically form.  We will be debuting a just-completed collage, Klari 2 from a new landscape series.  The results are white on white dimensional artworks filled with depth, reflection and shadows.

Arizona artist, Ken Peloke is colorblind, and although this used to present a challenge for him as an artist, he has learned to control his color palette to limit his frustration.  In his recent body of work, he creates photorealistic mixed media horse paintings inspired by the time he has spent with his wife’s horses. The more time he spent with them, the more Ken discovered their beauty, their athleticism, and their innocence. His bold, large-scale pieces capture the pure essence of each horse – the beauty, nobility and power. His multimedia approach creates depth and incredible realism. According to Ken, “There is such an honesty and purity that is felt while spending time with our horse, as an artist I feel compelled to try to relay those same emotions to the viewers through my work.”

My Favorite Things opens in Scarsdale, NY

On this Thanksgiving eve...there is lots to be grateful for including 3 new exhibits!

My Favorite Things.  

 

This Holiday Season art exhibit is focused on Fun and Joy and opened at Vintology Wine & Spirits on November 18.  It will run through January 5, 2014.

My Favorite Things features the artwork of Austin Artist, Allison Gregory, Florida Artist, Paula Brett, and New York Artist, Melinda Hackett.  

 

As viewers see the artwork of Allison Gregory, a smile starts to form.  Her enamel, resin and acrylic canvases are richly layered, brightly colored and drip with delight.  

 

 

 

In her latest series of Bullseyes, she combines resin, pigment and eye-shadow to create highly dimensional artworks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Florida artist, Paula Brett has created a series entitled Candala.  These limited edition photographs are Mandalas made from pieces of Candy!  According to Paula, “The mandala symbolizes the law of the universe and since man is also a microcosm of the universe, many cultures believe that the mandala also symbolizes the human soul.   Mandalas serve as collection point for universal forces…My intention with these candalas is to arrange everyday sweets into a pattern which becomes scared, where delicious turns divine, the enticing now exquisite.”  

 

 

 

This exhibit debuts Paula Brett's work for the first time with Elisa Contemporary Art.  We are thrilled to be now represeting Paula Brett's limited edition photography.  Her artwork can also be seen in early December at Dylan's Candy Bar in New York City.

Elisa Contemporary Art's CURATENYC exhibit press
